Meet the Team IV: Marcos Urios Gómez

Once finished Christmas’ Holidays, let’s start the routine again. And what could be better way to start than meeting me! Let’s go!

Introduction

My name is Marcos Urios Gómez, I’m from Alicante and millennial, like most of the group members. As my teammates said in previous posts, all of us are finishing our last year at Multimedia Engineering degree, and that’s why are we working on this interesting project. I’m so grateful for being part of this awesome team and very happy to achieve the kind of progress we have reach.

Personally, I get bored doing not surprising things or doing stuff which is not visually attractive. But if I have to do it, I will, and so good. I consider essential the effort you put, the constancy and the dedication to achieve whatever you want. I also consider myself an optimist person.

When I was young I admired a lot all the tech, like video games or any I.T.-related stuff, overcoat the graphic, creative and interactive scenarios. Maybe I’m an artistic person for the reason that I’ve spent much time playing with buildings, LEGOs… during my childhood.

Once I had finished my high school and I achieved to start my degree, I didn’t know which branch to take; I love 3D content or any digital art so much as web design. Nowadays I still thinking about which way choose, or even do both at the same time. This year I’m focusing my time on moving forward on Kwee‘s project, but when I have free time I usually look for new unknown things for me to do in 3D. I’m totally sure that I don’t like coding video games.

Hobbies

Even though I was born in Alicante, I lived my first years of life in Arenales del Sol. It’s a small village from Elche, that was built just behind a long and beautiful beach. Living in front of the beach made my personality kind of special; since I was a child I went to a nautical activities school for so many summers. Later when I grow up a bit more, it was my job for 2 consecutive summers.

Going to this summer school let me learn some water sports, like surfing, windsurfing, sailing or kayaking. When I was working there I learned a lot more because I had to deal with taking care of children, let them enjoy and don’t let them get hurt with the boards, it was a bit stressful. At least I’m pretty sure that we, the school instructors, inculcated the principles and values of that kind of sports very well to the kids; being respectful with your mates, with the environment and thinking about the value of each moment. This place’s magic for me because I met a nice group of friends so valuable, which I still stay in contact with them and usually share beaches and waves to go surfing together

I also practice kitesurfing in my free time, and someone of this group is guilty of that ( Can you guess who that is? ). I’m able to sail with kitesurfing quite good, but I still consider it a dangerous sport. The mix of the wind when it’s blowing and the sea when it’s pumping waves it’s sometimes frightening. But I invite you to try it, it’s addictive!

Like you will know the world is very little, and for me is not different; the first group of friends that I made on this school was the same that I met practicing kitesurf. So at the end, everyone in the group were doing all kind of sports.

By the tech side I love spending my free time -when there aren’t waves either wind…- modeling, texturing or learning new 3D things related. I also like editing the videos I took while surfing or just traveling. You can take a look at my website!

Role on the Project

Since the idea was born, I’ve been working on the Kwee‘s backend together with Carlos. We built a Node API that lets to our frontend teammates get whatever data they need from the database by an efficient, secure and simple way.

To explain the API’s functionality to the frontend guys, I’ve done the API documentation. There I explain precisely how they have to call each request, how the errors can be handled and the response of each request.

In the backend I also did the data validation, just checking the data values before inserting into our system. Each validation is explained in the API documentation that I was explaining before. This data-check it’s needed to tell the users which values the database will save. Otherwise our system will discard this data, and won’t be stored. It’s a way to keep the user info safe, and at the same time that gets our system away of errors.

I also had spent enough time setting up the servers running this project, with Izadi and Flaviu. Installing services, creating automatized scripts, opening and closing ports and granting a fluent communication between our deployed applications… Once the servers were ready to run, therefore the API and our corporative web were ready to serve content to the Internet.

In the next months, I will be working with Flaviu making possible the Advanced Graphics Techniques subject integration into our project. We will be in charge of the group in this subject, solving the problems that the group will face. In Kwee we will create a 3D world showing every connection between the applicant and the offerer, in real time.

Finally, when the API will be finished, I will put all my efforts into frontend face. Then all the group will be focused on the same objective: moving forward the interfaces and its performance with the finished backend.
